Marking Life Events

We are happy to extend a warm welcome to you at St John’s when you come to mark those events that mark important turning points in life. Please contact the Rector to discuss any of these further.

Baptism.

Christian baptism is a sign of new birth, of forgiveness and acceptance by God, and of welcome into the loving community of the church. For parents of a young child or baby, it is an opportunity to give thanks for your child, and to start them on the journey of faith. For an adult it is a time to make a public declaration of faith as you continue on that journey. For the church it is an opportunity for us to offer prayerful love and support.

Confirmation.

This is an important step on the Christian journey when those who have been baptised affirm for themselves the faith in which they have grown, and their intention to continue as disciples of Christ. It is a moment of commitment in the presence of the Bishop, and supported by the church community.

Weddings.

Being married in church is a way of inviting God to be part of your relationship as you make a public declaration of your love and commitment to each other. And the church can offer support and encouragement to you in the years ahead as you embark on married life –one of the biggest adventures in life.

Funerals.

This is a difficult occasion, but it is an important opportunity for friends and family to express their grief, to give thanks for the life of the person who has died, and to commend them to God. We at St John’s are here to offer help and support, whether the funeral is to be in church or at the crematorium.
