St John’s Church, Neville’s Cross, Durham
Children Youth and Families Worker
We are looking for someone with vision and enthusiasm who can work with us to enable, support and grow our existing Christian ministry with children, young people and families, in both the church and the wider community in our post-Covid world; and to explore new potential for outreach.
Who we are …
St John’s is located in Neville’s Cross, a residential area on the edge of Durham City.
We are part of a wider benefice, united with the parish of St Margaret’s in the city centre, and of St Edmund’s in the village of Bearpark, which is a former colliery.
We presently have a range of activities for children and young people across the three churches, but the 2021 Census demographic revealed a large percentage of our population is under the age of twenty. This is encouraging us to meet the challenges of changing patterns of family life post-covid, and to explore and expand ways of sharing the gospel of Christ with children, young people and families; with the hope of integrating them more fully into the life of our church communities.
We are looking for …
- someone with prayerful vision and a heart for mission to children and young people;
- someone with experience of working with children, young people and families, who will be based at St John’s to enable, support and develop the existing ministries, and to explore the potential for new ways of outreach into the community;
- someone with leadership and teamwork skills who can support and nurture our volunteers, be part of a friendly and supportive environment and team, and who will enable coordination between the different churches and initiatives.
What we offer …
The post is offered as a full time 2-year fixed term contract, with the expectation of extending it subject to funding and agreement, with a salary of £ 25.000 p.a. and with office space, equipment, resources, and support.
